Product update from Maxant.
In case you haven’t heard, the new edition of the Florida Building Code is set to change the standard for aluminum used in gusset plates. So starting in 2026, we will offer an upgrade to 6061-T6 grade aluminum.

Our plates are currently made of 5052, a marine-grade aluminum common with the industry since it’s easy to bend and weld. However, the newest Florida Building Code (due out in 2026 with enforcement in 2027) is expected to require gusset plates to be made of 6005 aluminum.
Well, 6005 isn’t available. In trying to be proactive, I could not source 6005 anywhere domestically. So I reached out to the Aluminum Association of Florida (AAF) to see if anyone there had a solution. Several conversations later, I am assured that 6061-T6 will be included in the new code.
Our shipment of the new material is expected before Christmas, and we’ll have both 5052 and the new 6061-T6 available for your gusset plate orders. Please know that the 6061-T6 will cost about 15% more than our current pricing.
Things can change, of course, but for now, I’m confident this new material – similar to 6005 but stronger and therefore better for gusset plates – will be acceptable under the new code.

Best wishes for a warm holiday season.
